The boreal forest is located around the northern hemisphere. "Boreal" comes from the russian word "taiga" which means swampy moist forest. This biome is found in Russia, Canada, Alaska and Scandinavia. The boreal forest covers around 12,000 kilomitres of the earth, which is almost 11% of the planet's surface area. This fact makes this biome the largest terrestrial ecosystem on Earth.
