There is a large variety of animals and birds in the boreal forest biome. The animals that are found in this biome include mooses, wolves, bobcats, North American river otters, lynxes, beavers, woodland caribou, wolverines, grizzly bears and black bears. The birds that live in this biome are eagles, hawks, loons, geese, and ducks.
Adaptations
Due to the extremely cold weather, the mammals have adapted by growing thick fur coats. These animals are: sables, lynxes, martens and many others. Most of the animals that live in this region are larger because the bigger the animal is, the more it is able to contain heat. Some animals also hibernate during the coldest months, like the grizzly or black bears. They are able to contain their heat by having an extra fat layer that they accumulate while they eat as much as they can in the warmer months. Some animals (mostly birds) avoid this region all together. In the cold months, they migrate south. Small animals like rodents avoid the cold by digging little burrows. This also helps them avoid predators
